Electric and Gas Water Heaters

Overlake offers several brands of gas water heaters and electric water heaters. Both are available as standard models as well as tankless systems. If you have a particular brand and model in mind, we likely have it available. However, if you haven't made a decision yet, we recommend the Bradford White and Navien products. Both manufacturers make some of the finest gas water heaters and electric water heaters in the industry.

Comparing Tankless to Standard gas and electric water heaters

While both systems will give you hot water, each has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, tankless systems are more energy efficient; they don't heat water when there is no demand for it, so no energy is being used during down times. You'll never have to worry about running out of hot water either; extended showers are not a problem. However, the upfront cost of these systems is significantly greater. Also, when there is a power outage, you won't have hot water which you would have with standard natural gas water heaters. If you're switching from a standard water heater to a tankless, you'll likely have to have the gas piping to the unit upgraded to a larger size to accommodate the increased demand (you may need the gas meter upgraded as well). And tankless systems can only provide so much hot water at once (measured in gallons per minute) whereas standard tank systems don’t have this limitation.

Your standard gas water heater and electric water heater have a lower upfront cost, often provide hot water during a power outage, and for all practical purposes don't have a maximum gallons-per-minute limitation. However, even the most energy efficient gas water heater models are not as energy efficient as the tankless systems and running out of hot water eventually is a concern.
